

About Me
Lerato Ntwampe is a Social Media Legal Consultant, Cyber Safety Enthusiast and Speaker. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Law as well as a Bachelor of laws (“LLB”) from the University of Pretoria in South Africa.
She provides legal advice, guidance and education in various aspects of the laws governing the digital space such as social media law, cyber law, media and entertainment law, labour law as well as children protection.She is passionate about social media law and how it affects people in society, particularly women and children. Her passion involves teaching and empowering people and corporate entities on their rights and responsibilities especially in the digital age in which we find ourselves as well as the legal implications flowing from the use of social media.
She has keen interest in the development of legislation in Africa pertaining to the digital space including privacy laws, the protection of children on the digital space as well as other risks and challenges that continue to present themselves in the digital space.
She has previously worked in the private sector where she was involved in providing legal advice, guidance and education in the social media space. She gained experience on various legal issues that are affecting children, women, schools and corporate companies.
She was then afforded an opportunity to join the Film and Publication Board (“FPB”) where she was employed as an intern in the Legal and Regulatory Affairs Unit. During the course of her internship, she was fortunate enough to be involved in the drafting and finalization of the Film and Publication Amendment Act, 2019 which exposed me to the development of legislation and working with policymakers which was extremely important in the context of social media law and related laws in that will regulate content on the online space including social media platforms.
Some of her highlights during her time at the FPB include the opportunity to present at the 2018 Youth and Research Unit Conference on the online and offline sexual exploitation of children in South Africa at the University of South Africa (“UNISA”) on behalf of the Legal and Regulatory Affairs Unit. Facilitating a Youth Panel Discussion at Safer Internet Day – an annual, global campaign that happens in over 140 countries worldwide which aims to raise awareness for a safer and better internet as well as the opportunity to speak to the young girls at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls on the importance of cyber safety and the social and legal implications that come with having a social media presence.
After her internship at the FPB, she joined the Motsoeneng Bill Attorneys Incorporated (“MBA Inc.”) as a candidate attorney. In her time at MBA Inc, she was exposed to a range of legal issues and was able to gain experience in aspects of the law such as litigation, constitutional law, administrative law, media law, labour law as well as skills such as legal drafting.
Since leaving MBA Inc. she has been able to focus fully on providing services as a Social Media Legal Consultant which services include providing legal advice, guidance and education in various aspects of the laws governing the digital space such as social media law, cyber law, media and entertainment law, labour law as well as children’s rights.
She also provides training on social media to various schools, non-profit organisations and small to medium entities which entails teaching and empowering people on their rights and responsibilities especially in the digital age in which they find ourselves as well as the legal implications flowing from the use of social media.
She has been featured on various media platform as a legal expert on various social media issues such as Radio 2000, KAYA FM, Power FM, Capricorn FM, SABC News, Newzroom Afrika as well as MOJA LOVE TV.
